Butterton – Double thankful village

Butterton, our nearest village, on November 11th has been celebrating!  While other villages have been remembering the soldiers who did not come home after WW1 and WW2, Butterton was remembering the soldiers who all returned.   New street furniture has been erected, a planter and new signs to celebrate the this very rare achievement.  The village started the day in the church, with Radio Stoke recording the service and the names of the WW1 returning soldiers names being read out.  In the after noon the signs were revealed, and a 3 hour peel of the newly installed bells rang out in celebration. … Continued

Iron age & roman coins found together in Dovedale.

A climber found late iron age and republican roman coins when exploring the Ranard’s Kitchen Cave in Dovedale, a valley accent to the Manifold. Last year, archeologists from Leicester University and injuried servicemen from the Army joined forces to excavate the cave.  The coins were cleaned by specialists from the British Museum and University College London and  are going to be on permanent display in Buxtom Museum.
