Butterton – Double thankful village

Butterton, our nearest village, on November 11th has been celebrating!  While other villages have been remembering the soldiers who did not come home after WW1 and WW2, Butterton was remembering the soldiers who all returned.   New street furniture has been erected, a planter and new signs to celebrate the this very rare achievement.  The village started the day in the church, with Radio Stoke recording the service and the names of the WW1 returning soldiers names being read out.  In the after noon the signs were revealed, and a 3 hour peel of the newly installed bells rang out in celebration. At 7:00pm. a beacon was lit and again the bells rang out to correspond with the bells ringing all over Britain. The villagers then congregated in the village hall to enjoy a pie and pea supper.
